Donegal gets set for a fabulous feast at the foot of Er...

The hills of Donegal will literally come alive with the sights, smells and tastes of spectacular local produce on Monday 30th September, when some of the county’s most brilliant chefs, create a feast of Donegal food at the foot of Errigal, the county’s highest peak.

The feast, featuring amazing Donegal produce from land and sea, will take place in the courtyard of Errigal Hostel from 6pm and guests will be treated to music and a Donegal drinks reception, on arrival.

Food Coast Donegal and local chef Chris Molloy, have brought the team of chefs and producers together for the event as part of the Donegal Connect Festival and the Failte Ireland’s nationwide campaign – Taste the Island.

That team of chefs includes barbecue specialist John Religan a former head chef at Holy Smoke in Cork and Pitmaster at Jamie Oliver’s flagship restaurant Barbecoa.

It also includes Downings native Ciaran Sweeney who worked at the prestigious two Michelin starred Le Champagne Sauvage in Cheltenham and who since 2016 has been head chef of one of Dublin’s most noteworthy and exciting restaurants, Forest & Marcy.

Also cooking on the night will be locally based chefs, Joe O’Hara who has taken the Donegal food scene by storm with his high-

quality cooking at Benny & Co, Ballybofey, awarded “Best Newcomer” at this year’s Irish Restaurant Awards.

Oisin McAviney co-founder of the popular OURhouse Street food pop-up will also be there, while Chris Molloy, co-owner of the acclaimed Lemon Tree Restaurant in Letterkenny and co-founder of Off the Street Food Fest has been at the forefront of organising the entire event.

Food Coast Donegal has the ambition of making Donegal famous for food and according to Head of Enterprise in Donegal, Michael Tunney, this is achieved by working closely with Donegal chefs and producers to showcase everything that Donegal has to offer.

“Donegal is on the rise from the food perspective and there is a growing pride and confidence in the sector now in what the county can offer visitors and locals alike. That was highlighted by the county’s strong showing in the recent Foodie Destinations awards run by the Restaurants Association of Ireland where the passion from the chefs and suppliers and the outstanding local produce we have here, really impressed the judges,” he said.

Guests at the Feast at the Foot of Errigal event will not only get to witness that passion come alive on the plate, they’ll also get the opportunity to meet with some of the county’s marvellous producers on the night.

Due to high demand, a small number of extra tickets for the spectacular feast are now being made available to purchase, but these are expected to sell quickly and anyone interested in securing a ticket is urged to go online to the Local Enteprise Office Website and book immediately.


The Dungloe Street Food event is a new offering at this year’s Mary From Dungloe International Arts Festival.

It promises to be a welcome and fun addition to the festival in 2019, with food trucks, a host of local Donegal producers and vendors showcasing and selling the fruits of their labour.

Entertainment on the day will be provided by local buskers and we will also host a Gin Bar to round it all off.

The team responsible for this wonderfully successful event is pleased to announce the return of Letterkenny’s most delicious summer food festival, Off The Street Food Fest.

Now in its third year and an annual event in Letterkenny’s social calendar, the festival will run over two days and will feature cookery demonstrations from award winning chefs, live music from the acclaimed Tanya McCole and The Hillbilly Rednecks, quizzes and family fun and much much more.

This year Letterkenny Institute of Technology School of Tourism (formally The Tourism College Killybegs/ Killybegs Catering College) is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

In October, Tony Davidson and Lina Reppert from Fisk in Downings will treat our guests to a series of small plates celebrating the best of local Donegal fish and shellfish, fresh from the Atlantic Ocean. Dinner will be served informally both in our kitchen and at our large communal table.

Donegal Connect is a ten day celebration of all things Donegal, which takes place from September 27th – October 6th 2019. As part of the festivities The Food Coast are hosting a Donegal Feast at the foot of Errigal.

Donegal Chef Chris Molloy, will lead a team of local chefs and producers to create a memorable and unique experience featuring a Feast of Donegal Roast Goat as the guests look up and take in the stunning views of Mount Errigal from the Errigal Hostel in Gweedore.

This will be a feast for all the senses with memories of Donegal being made.
