Brians most recent cookbook, ‘Donegal Table,’ has been selected to represent Ireland at the prestigious Gourmand World Cookbook Awards in China!
Commenting on the fantastic news Brian said it’s, “massive news, fantastic, I’m very proud as this was totally unexpected.”
The aims of the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards are to praise those who cook with words and to promote the best authors and publishers in the genre. The awards give an overview of world food and drink culture.
Much more than just a cookbook this is a collection of fascinating stories, beautiful imagery, and recipes from his native county Donegal. Brian’s book embodies the spirit and ethos of the food of Donegal and the chef’s life. Since it’s publication this past spring, the cookbook has helped to put Donegal firmly on the culinary map of Ireland.
The talented chef will go ahead to represent Ireland in two categories; chef and television. Brian, who is well-known for his television work and cookery demonstrations will travel to Macau next July for the awards. Supporting chef Brian, as always, are his wife Brenda and daughters Aoife and Niamh, who are “just as thrilled as he is”.
Last September, Brian won the prestigious Georgina Campbell Newcomer of the Year award for his latest venture, the boutique Foyle Hotel in Moville. At an awards ceremony in Dublin, Brian accepted the award on behalf of ‘the thirty-six excited staff’ at the hotel. Speaking at the awards Brian, said he was delighted to bring the award back home with him, to a place that is the inspiration for much of his cooking.
