Food partnerships and collaborations are a key part of what The Food Coast Donegal is all about. Donegal businesses, Atlantic Treasures – The Fish Stop and Hughie’s Bar in Killybegs, joined forces earlier this year to create a new seafood experience for visitors and locals to enjoy.
The Hooked & Cooked Seafood Experience is a new Donegal taste adventure in Killybegs, which is Ireland’s biggest fishing port. Visitors are invited to hand-select their own fresh fish and seasoning from The Fish Stop, before taking their cook-bag to the newly revamped Hughie’s Bar, where it will be cooked, garnished and plated.
The idea was developed earlier this year to give visitors an opportunity to sample fresh Atlantic catch and experience an authentic Donegal welcome along the Wild Atlantic Way.
Talking through the steps, Michael O’Donnell of Atlantic Treasures – The Fish Stop said: “The first step in the journey is to pick your fresh fish from a selection of the Atlantic’s finest catch. We have the freshest haddock, cod, hake, salmon and plaice to choose from, and customers can flavour their fish according to their own personal tastes with a choice of seasoning or glaze, including Garlic & Mediterranean Herbs Glaze, Tomato & Herbs Glaze, Ginger, Chilli & Lime Glaze, Lemon Twister Seasoning or Salt and Chilli Seasoning. From here, customers then bring their fresh cook-bag to Hughie’s Bar, located just across the street where Hughie will cook and garnish your fish dish for you to enjoy at a table, overlooking the marina.
Adding to this, popular fishmonger, Ronan Cunningham said: “Whether you’re on a Wild Atlantic Way adventure or exploring Donegal’s hidden gems, the Hooked & Cooked Seafood Experience is the perfect day out for families and food lovers. We want to give visitors the ultimate foodie day-out by combining the perfect mix of tasting fresh catch from the boats, meeting locals, exploring the area and enjoying a warm Donegal welcome.”
The Hooked & Cooked Seafood Experience costs €15 per person and is suitable for children and adults. It is available from Tuesday to Friday from 12 noon – 6pm and on Saturdays from 12 noon to 4pm. See www.atlantictreasures.ie
